Interview Exclusive ‘Houses’

Voici l’interview du duo américain Houses dont je vous ai déjà parlé ici !

So why Houses ?

Dexter: We were originally called Sun House (It was a nod at the blues musician Son House), but had to change it due to the fact that when you said it, it sounded exactly the same as the blues musician. It would’ve been too hard from a PR standpoint.

How did you come to music ?

Megan: Dexter came to me with a track he had recorded and I loved it.  He really knows my taste in music and I told him that I wanted to be a part of it.  It all came together very naturally.

What are your influences ?

D: I find a lot of inspiration in silence, as I don’t get to experience it too often.

Is there anyone in particular you would like to work with ?

D: Yes, Diplo.

How do you describe what you’re doing with your music ?

D: I read somewhere that  someone had called us ‘Looping Rain Music’, and I really like that. That’s an accurate description of what we’re doing I would say. We get pegged as chillwave a lot, but I really don’t think All Night is a chillwave album at all. Aside from a few songs, most of it is best listened to at night or in the rain.

Can you explain us how you’ve recorded all the Houses album ?

D: I basically sat in front of Logic Studio 12 hours a day for about 2 months just recording every idea I had and learning how to use that program better, and since I was using a laptop I could bring my whole studio around with me and record Megan’s vocals wherever she was staying.

I heard on a few websites that you moved from Chicago to Hawaï, a particular reason ?

M: We both wanted time away from the routines we felt stuck in.  Winter is a rough season to go through in Chicago,  so we decided Hawaii would be the best place to reside until it passes. It was very fulfilling to get away, to live life in a different place and at a very different pace. This winter I will be closing my eyes often and imagining I’m still there.

What’s your favourite band at the moment ?

D: I’ve been really into Burial lately. Oh, and Holy Other, he’s got some amazing songs. Not really my favorite bands or anything, but I’ve been listening to a lot of them lately.

M: Eluvium

Where do you see each other in twenty years?

M: We’ll be together, somewhere, certainly not in Chicago.

D: I agree.

Thank you very much for your time. I’ve got one last question. Have you plan an European Tour soon ?

D: Gosh I really hope so.

Sortie du premier album  All Night le 19 octobre 2010.
